The treasury has rectified an error in Budget 2010 that showed an excess RM30 billion in allocations.

The Finance Ministry said today that the allocation should have read as RM191 billion and not RM221 billion as was printed.

NONE Last week, DAP’s Bukit Bendera MP Liew Chin Tong had said the ministry and treasury had misled Parliament with “shoddy preparation of the budget document that shows a RM30 billion hole”.

Today, he insisted that both have yet to prove their integrity as the amount for the ‘emergency reserve fund’ is not shown in Budget 2011.

“In all preceding years, the allocation for the emergency reserve fund has been part of the (total) figure.

“For 2011, RM2 billion is allocated for this purpose which the finance minister is attempting to hide from the public. The actual total is RM 213,987,217, 000 or RM 214 billion.”

Saying that he has scrutinised the Budget 2011 document, Liew called for premier and Finance Minister Najib Abdul Razak to be “censured”.

“He should also apologise to Parliament for his ostrich-like act in hiding the RM2 billion figure from the public, in his budget speech on Oct 15,” he said.

Najib had told the Dewan Rakyat that the total allocation for Budget 2011 is RM212 billion.
