High rise living in Georgetown can be very dangerous.

Yesterday a falling stone killed a private taxi driver at the Jalan Sungai low-cost flats here and today, a screwdriver came flying down damaging a car's windscreen at the public housing project flats in Sungai Pinang.

Sharifah Mydin Kuppay, 27, a soya bean trader, said she was left in shock when the windscreen of her car was hit by a screwdriver just after she got out of it.

"I was dropping my brother's children at the flats entrance when suddenly an object from above came down and hit my windscreen at about 2.50pm," she told reporters when met at the scene.

Sharifah who has been staying at the flat scheme the past nine years, said she would lodge a police report later today.

She added that on Tuesday she had witnessed a flying flower pot narrowly  missing a man at the same flats.

"I have even heard that an aquarium was among items that had been thrown from above previously," she said.

On Saturday, 64-year-old Koay Chin Chai died after he was hit on the head by a stone measuring 14cm by 10cm and weighing about 300 grammes.

Meanwhile, Penang municipal councillor Ong Ah Teong said a meeting was held this morning with the residents' association of the Jalan Sungai flats on  improving safety and security.

"We have decided to install six closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at strategic locations of the flat scheme to enable us to monitor the situaion so as to prevent this menace," he said, adding orders would also be issued to flats' residents to dispose of unwanted items left along corridors properly failing which severe penalties would be imposed.
