Soi Lek: Some Umno grassroots 'not very smart'

DOC: From what comes out of Umno's mouth - may it be from the grassroots or the top-level leadership - I think we can safely deduce Umno members in general are "not very smart".

Take for example, Hishammuddin Hussein, who perpetually put his foot in his mouth, the DPM who goes on ranting on racist policies which to date has not shown any positive impact for Umno.

Not to mention, our flip flop PM whose policies are like ‘lalang', which waves according to the changing political winds.

In any case, when did Umno grassroots and national leaders ever look after the welfare of the Chinese? Chinese role has always been the paymaster in exchange for a place to earn a living in this country.

Yes, Umno wants to keep Chinese solely confined to business. But has it ever occurred to you that a better society and country is built on parameters other than businesses?

As for PAS insistence of an Islamic state, they do it honestly and openly, unlike Umno which is also working towards the same objective but do it hypocritically and covertly. Join hands with the opposition and work together with Pakatan Rakyat to overthrow the corruption and racialism by Umno.

This is the greater priority now. The non-Muslims can later work with PAS to agree to a mutually acceptable solution on whether Malaysia can be an Islamic state.

Mohd Hazwan: I think people like Dr Chua may be living in a cocoon. In fact, he is the one who is over simplifying things. Sometimes religion helps to weed out corruption, injustice and bad governance.

Goodmen: People who keep on harping about a Sabah-based party for Sabah have got it wrong. You are being manipulated into using parochial sentiment. It makes no difference where the party is based if those running the show are Sabahans who understand the needs of Sabah.

Yong Teck Lee (YTL) talks about suing the federal government for failure to honour the Malaysian agreement - but you wouldn't have to sue if you are part of a new federal government of Pakatan Rakyat, which has already signed a document promising to review 20 points.

YTL is maintaining his position as ‘independent' because it suits his ambitions to be kingmaker. Do not be fooled by this guy. He is a sly fox. He will set his sail according to the wind.

Disgusted: It looks like BN need not campaign at all as SAPP and Pakatan are going for each other's throats. Think carefully, who do you think will stand to gain when the opposition is in disarray. How stupid can you all be?

Yong is stupid and desperate to win this election to prove that he and SAPP are relevant to Sabah's politics, but it will be his folly to enter into this contest. He will regret it as he will lose credibility if he fares badly.

In the meantime, it would be wise to call a truce amongst the opposition and work on its strength and exploit BN's weakness to convince voters to support them instead of pointing to each other's weakness and gaining nothing at all. May the better party win.

Wira: One of my early suggestions was to have a SAPP candidate compete under Pakatan banner. It looks like it was the SAPP leadership who rejected this as they were not interested in the unity of the opposition. I hope Yong loses his deposit.

Nightclubs may breed more vice among our youngsters as many of the clients once they are high on liquor, look for social escorts/call girls, etc. There could be an increase in STD, HIV and teenage pregnancies.

In western cities, there are very strict rules on drunk driving and their enforcement is corruption free. People drink at nightclubs but arrange for special taxis to ferry them home. But in Malaysia, there is a good chance that one might be mugged in the taxi on the way home at midnight.
