Umno’s Lenggeng state assemblyperson Mustafa Salim has been ordered to enter his defence over three charges of corruption.

NONE Seremban High Court judicial commissioner Ahmad Nasfy Yasin said the prosecution had established a prima facie case against the first-term assemblyman.

Mustafa, 52 ( left ), was acquitted of the charges by the Sessions Court on April 14, but this was appealed by the prosecution.

Session Court judge Amran Jantan had then ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against the accused and that the evidence showed that the complainant was not sure whether he obtained the sand permit after receiving a letter of support from Mustafa.

Mustafa had been charged with soliciting a RM3,000 bribe from M Manimaran, 37, on Aug  2008, as an inducement to issue a letter of support to obtain a permit to sell sand.

He was also charged with receiving a total of RM4,000 from Manimaran in two separate occassions in the same month for purposes of obtaining a letter of support for Manimaran as well as to prevent action being taken against the latter should he be caught seeling sand without a permit.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission as prosecutor was represented by deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais and Wong Poi Yoke, while Mustafa was represented by counsel Feisal Musapha.
