Reject 'politics of envy the rich', decries Taib

Loyal Malaysian: No, Pek Moh (Abdul Taib Mahmud) we, who are critical of you and your family, are not envious of the rich. If they have earned their millions, nay billions, through hard work and fair means, they are entitled to enjoy and even flaunt their wealth.

But if the rich like you and your family have been found to be accumulating your wealth through foul means like corruption and nepotism, we shall not allow you to enjoy your wealth in peace even when institutions such as the MACC refuses to investigate you.

Voter: I have no problem with rich people who earned their millions from hard work. I hate those who made millions through political connections and play racial politics to enrich themselves.

These are the people who deplete our national resources and cause division among races. All races should unite to get rid of such corrupt politicians. They tell the bumiputeras that they are still behind but how come our politicians are super rich and live way beyond their salary?

HNL: I am very sure Taib Mahmud is fully aware of all the serious allegations of abuse of power, corruption, mismanagement made against him and members of his immediate family in the Sarawak Report .

Until today, he and members of his family have not denied them and they have not taken any legal action against those who made all these allegations which are backed by documents and photographs.

Bakun's impoundment brings more misery to natives

Malaysian: Coming from a BN MP (Liwan Lagang of Belaga), the problems on the ground in Bakun must be really bad. Come on, Pek Moh after swallowing so much of Sarawak's riches, do some good before you depart from this world.

Help alleviate the sufferings of the ordinary folks affected by your Bakun dam monster. It is also a good idea to have more Penan youths in teacher training institutes so that they could be posted back to help their community.

WanM: The Penan should be treated fairly and not be second-class bumis in the eyes of BN. Match your 1Malaysia slogan with action.

A 'kurang ajar' minister defending his turf

Rolls-Royce: There must be a reason why the DAP Adun from Sekinchan (Ng Suee Lim) has gone to Tg Karang to investigate. There must be a reason why the farmers there are not happy.

The agriculture minister (Noh Omar) has said that he or his representative has resolved the issue with the farmers. But we want to know what the problem was in the first place and how the issue has been resolved. If the DAP Adun had not gone there, would the so-called problem be resolved so quickly?

My opinion is that there are too many vested interest groups and monopolies in the country. And this is one of the reasons why there are so much of frustration and unhappiness among the people. It is also the major cause of us remaining a low-income country.

Alan Goh: This minister is one of the three clowns who wanted to save Selangor from the opposition.

Kazakh: I guess this is a typical behaviour from these Umno warlords. But when they are kicked out of power, like Mohd Khir Toyo, they become quiet and meek.

Gates heads to KL to bolster defense ties

Gerard Samuel Vijayan: As a non-aligned country and one that is largely anti-American in sentiment (on issues such as Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Palestine, Darfur, etc) why are we fostering close defence ties with the US? This is the same posturing and hypocrisy as shown by Dr Mahathir Mohamad during his 22 years as PM.

If China is not perceived as a threat to Malaysia, why do we need to cosy up to the US which has a very inconsistent and self-serving foreign policy that does not reflect its status as a great power? Or is this the price we have to pay thanks to the Apco lobby in Washington DC.

Frankly, I was dismayed by some of Hillary Clinton's statements during her visit to Malaysia that seemed to suggest that Najib Razak and the BN are the current flavour of the month in Washington DC. While the US is our largest trading partner and a major investor, we must be cautious in our approach to the US lest we have to compromise on our own foreign policy objectives and national interests.
