A Selangor state executive councillor lost more than RM70,000 in cash and valuables to burglars who broke into his house in Taman Klang Jaya in Klang today.

Dr A Xavier Jayakumar, chairperson of the state health, plantation workers, poverty and caring government committee, said the thieves had taken a safe containing some cash, jewellery and international passports as well as a laptop computer and a camera.

xavier selangor interview 080408 He said he believed the burglars broke into his house between 12.30pm and 3.30pm when no one was at home.

"My son Dev Arul who returned from school at about 3.30pm found all the four rooms ransacked and the safe missing.

"He contacted his mother and she called me," he said.

Jayakumar (left) , who rushed home from the state assembly sitting, said this was the first time his house was broken into during the 21 years he had lived there.

Klang police chief ACP Mohamad Mat Yusop, when contacted, confirmed that a police report had been made on the incident.
