Kula: No moral victory for winners of 'slaughter'

Alan Goh: Perhaps the lesson to learn here is to have the proper number of delegates-to-members ratio. Whatever it is, the winner must not take all and the losers lose all.

Unity stems from humility and accommodation, as M Kulasegaran rightly mentioned that a number of defeated members are very strong grassroots supporters of DAP. With unity, Perakian voters hope that Pakatan Rakyat can retake the state from its current backdoor MB and Umno in the next general elections.

Sarajun Hoda: Kulasegaran, were you not part of the team who put the system in place? Then don't cry over spilt milk, and don't merajuk (sulk). A loss in a battle might mean a win at the war. You might be going even higher.

Anyway, if you are in politics, this phenomenon is natural. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. It is a game of who goes past the post first.

Pants on Fire: What I see in PKR and DAP are the "sad but unavoidable" results of success. The 12th general results have made people greedy for positions. Prior to that, many didn't want to be associated with the opposition or run for elections.

While such elections might be good for democracy, the way it is done - with claims of questionable tactics - have put the two parties in a bad light. The leadership must explain or slowly lose the confidence of its supporters.

Luckily there were also Chinese stalwarts who lost - otherwise it would be accused of racialism. I think only PAS has credibility thus far... but will that last?

KSN: Kula, the people understand your pain for someone who has stood up when injustice took place. You have, I believe, served your constituents faithfully as an MP should. You have been faithful to DAP and served it well, but the grace was not reciprocated. You should take satisfaction from all that and more.

Now you have been let down by many for reasons better known to them and to you, I believe, you should not accept any charity under the circumstances from the not-so-noble winners. They have their agenda and they think you will be a hindrance.

Continue to serve your constituency until your term expires as MP. Keep out of the vicious circle while serving honestly and sincerely. Think about your future plans beyond the period left as MP.

Let the others, the winners, have their day. Keep your honour which you have plenty. Politics is like that - you know that better than I.

Nurul maintains lead in veep race

Anonymous: It looks like the PKR elections results for the deputy president and the four vice-presidents are known now: deputy president - Azmin Ali; vice-presidents - Nurul Izzah Anwar, Tian Chua, Fuziah Salleh and Dr Mansor Othman. What is left is the result of the committee members; the last lap will end this weekend.

While we congratulate the winners, we should not forget the losers and those who quit, including Zaid Ibrahim. The elections must address the complaints and give clear-cut answers. If there has been fraud, then the results of such divisions should be nullified.

PKR must satisfy all contestants and the public at large that the elections have not been perfect, have been thoroughly scrutinised; and all actions, if any, will be above board. At stake is the integrity of the party itself.

The leadership cannot afford to brush aside all complaints. What Nurul Izzah said recently is relevant: "I do not hate Azmin; but I hate cheating."

Xroy: Zaid Ibrahim should know now that he's been licked. Tian Chua is respected in PKR, and yet Nurul Izzah leads the race. It is a clear indication of the kind of support that Anwar Ibrahim has, so I think in the best interest of everyone that Zaid should quit.

The writing is on the wall for Zaid, that is, if he is indeed a gentleman.

Hopeful: When Zaid resigned from Umno and his ministerial post, we all showered him with tons of praises. Months later, see what is happening now. We also never dreamed that the president of Aliran (Dr Chandra Muzaffar) will one day turn out to become a wolf.

And the Perak fiasco, how disappointed we were when the palace didn't call for fresh elections. Really, sweet words of fairness and justice do not mean anything until they are tested.

Liow: Tee Keat 'imagined' hospital ban

Anonymous: Whether it is true or a figment of the imagination of Ong Tee Keat (OKT) that he was ‘banned' for official functions, one thing is clear: OTK was not invited twice, not once. Surely, it could not have been an oversight on the part of the Health Ministry.

Liow should know that OTK was MCA president; and he is the MP of the constituency where the two functions were held.

Given the benefit of doubt, will Liow promise to invite OTK at the next opportunity? If he cannot make that promise, then the cat is out of the bag, isn't it? Of course, he could answer: "Who is OTK?"

R Venugopal: LTL (Liow Tiong Lai) must have learned well to tell a lie because the guest list is approved by the health minister. Be bold enough to tell the truth that he does not like to see the face of OTK at his functions.

Anonymous: Is the health minister or the former MCA president imagining things? Surely, exclusion could be seen as an oversight, but not two? Liow should show some respect to the MP of that constituency; and what more when he was comrade-in-arm in trying to oust Dr Chua Soi Lek.

It is funny that yesterday's friend becomes today's enemy. But that is politics.

Changeagent: Liow Tiong Lai is correct. There are no "orders from the top" to exclude OTK. There are only orders from himself.

Sex education can make you 'stupid'

Dennis Madden: This article by AB Suliaman is a very well-argued, logical and sensible. It will be generations before a Muslim can openly talk about the emotional aspects of sex to anyone, least of all a class full of enquiring and inquisitive children.

Fairplayer: Sex should be the ultimate in a love-relationship that is sealed in full marital commitment, not the kind of ‘love' that changes like the weather - that is ‘lust' with only irresponsible self-gratification in mind.

KohJL: There have been a number of randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses done in the past which provide insight to what kind of sex education worked, and even which type works best (or backfire).

It would be wise to use these valuable lessons to implement an evidence-based policy and not let the ‘righteous' hijack it. (Hint: It's the politically-correct abstinence-only sex education programmes that backfired).
