Unity team bags win, Ronnie Liu booted out

Wira: Congratulations to the winners. The result has the collective wisdom of the delegates who took the decision to exclude the suspect and to include representatives from both sides.

May the critics be reminded that both Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng fared badly in the election to the central committee in the aftermath of 2004 general elections. The central committee very wisely decided then to reappoint them to the posts of advisor and secretary-general. It is no different from what YB Teresa Kok is experiencing today.

Rolls-Royce: I see the collective wisdom of the delegates. They basically want all the leaders to work together, not to form teams and gangs. So long as a person is loyal to the party, its principles and its objectives, he/she should be accepted based on his/her ability to contribute.

Infighting based on personalities and idiosyncrasies is bad as I said earlier. I think I guess the delegates right - they want balance of power among the leaders, not winners take all and not losers lose all.

Both Teng and Teresa, please take note. It is pointless to win party positions but lose the general election.

Proarte: Good result. No 'taikos' will be allowed to rule the roost. They should buckle down and serve the people. Ronnie Liu's loss makes me hopeful that despite his obvious talents and contributions to the party, DAP delegates have shown that they will not compromise on any hint of corruption.

With him out of the picture, hopefully this will create for better working relationships all round. Teng Chang Khim unfortunately does have difficulty being a team player despite his obvious talents. He is also very antagonistic towards the Unity team headed by Kok.

Tee Boon Hock has been discredited and so any ascendency of the Rainbow faction headed by Teng will not do much good for DAP's prestige as a party, which is uncompromising on corruption.

WandererAUS: I hope the winners will maintain a humble attitude and the losers be graceful in defeat. Democracy does not cater for all contestants be winners but allow determined losers to give it another go when the opportunity returns.

Kit Siang: Pakatan control of Selangor not permanent

Swipenter: LKS (Lim Kit Siang) is speaking the truth. If the partners in Pakatan are not doing their job well serving the people, then Selangor can easily revert back to BN. Nobody can fault LKS as one of the most consistent and steadfast politicians of all time and for that he pays dearly for his political beliefs and struggles to make our country a better place to live in.

Armour Man: Yes, Pakatan Rakyat's hold on Selangor is fragile. In 2008, the people voted Pakatan because they were against BN and Pakatan was the only alternative. Now PKR is in turmoil. PAS appeals only to the rural electorate and the conservative urbanites. DAP is solid but is too Chinese-centric. The fence-sitters may just revert to BN.

Anonymous: I just wonder why no one questions Umno is too Melayu-centric but always question DAP as too Chinese-centric. This only shows how influential MSM (mainstream media) is. If you look at the number of Indian DAP MPs and Aduns, they are more in DAP than that in MIC. So, the perception is sometime not true and misleading.

Ghkok: In my constituency in Selangor since March 2008, the DAP Adun has been doing a fantastic job. The Adun's account is posted on her blog, every single item is accounted for right down to the last sen.

Playgrounds has been lighted, funds allocated for ‘pondok' police and voluntary patrols, traffic situation dramatically improved, cleanliness issues tackled with gusto, welfare and social programmes implemented, parking issues solved, unjust development proposals objected/rejected, and abandoned projects rescued.

In my opinion, the only fear for Pakatan Rakyat "losing Selangor" is if the 52-year federal government uses all despicable methods to secure victory.

Anonymous2: The struggle of DAP elders like Lim Kit Siang, Karpal Singh, Chen Man Hin, Sim Kwang Yang, P Patto and V David have been persistent. The fruits we see today are not their personal wealth, but political successes particularly in Penang, Selangor and Perak.

And to see their sons like Lim Guan Eng and Gobind Singh Deo carry on their struggles on their own merits (not like what we see in Umno, MCA, MIC and Gerakan) are more satisfying than anything else.

Black Mamba: Well, this is truly democracy at work. I can't fault the system if BN wins back Selangor. Pakatan Rakyat just got themselves to blame for infighting and power struggle. At least, there is always a two-party system to fall on should the voters want an alternative government next time. Any opposition party for that matter just got to work harder and not rest on its laurel to bring in the votes.

Anonymous3: The foundation of a true two-party system is that the party in power can change readily. If the party in power doesn't work for the people's interest then they will (and should) be voted out in the next election.

The whole fixed-deposit thing that BN speaks of is nothing, if not an insult to those that voted for them because they don't respect and value the people in that electorate. All politicians should live with the fear that if they act without the people's interests at heart then they will lose the voters confidence.

Teresa Kok: I did not call them gay

Fido Dido: Politicians should stop sensationalising minority movement like LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender). They must exercise respect and dignity when confronting opponents without having to bring in such labels. What is so amusing about LGBT?

Boonpou: Dear Teresa Kok, Rainbow Coalition is the term used by more than just what it has been referred to - in this case, the LGBT. It was also a political party in Kenya, and the name of the coalition led by former Democratic presidential hopeful Jesse Jackson, and the list goes on.

Proarte: I am really shocked and disappointed at Teresa! Why did Teresa have to make any references to sexual minorities at all? She may despise Teng but surely this is a cheap shot. Teng is definitely not gay and is married. Teresa is not married, so would that make her lesbian?

Politicians should not capitalise on society's prejudices against minorities for political advantage. Gosh, no wonder Teresa trailed a poor 11th when she can feign or display such ignorance and stupidity.
