An emergency motion to condemn North Korea’s artillery attack last week on Yeonpyeong Island in South Korea was rejected in the Dewan Rakyat today.

The urgent motion tabled by Salahuddin Ayub ( PAS-Kubang Kerian) was denied by deputy speaker Ronald Kiandee.

NONE Kiandee said that Wisma Putra or the Foreign Affairs Ministry had given an adequate answer when he consulted them.

“The ministry is monitoring the situation in both the countries and will react accordingly should there be a necessity,” said Kiandee.

Salahuddin urged the House to contemplate the matter as Malaysia has bilateral ties with both nations that are said to be on the brink of war.

Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) also asked the deputy speaker to reconsider his decision “as lives are at stake”..

Kiandee refused again, reiterating that Wisma Putra will do all it can to protect Malaysia’s interests in the two countries.
