The new Barisan Nasional (BN) charter, which was launched today, will inject a new spirit and enthusiasm in all BN component parties in upholding the 1Malaysia concept, Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan said.     

NONE He said the declaration by all 13 BN component parties to support the new charter, which was based on the 1Malaysia concept.     

"This charter is comprehensive, with the involvement of several sectors, like education and economy, and also how we (BN) run the government and it will be explained clearly so that all levels of society and government agencies understand the charter," he said when met at the end of the BN convention at Wisma MCA, KL, today.     

Ahmad, who is also deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, hoped the convention would spur all BN members to always put the people first and to give them the best service.     

MIC information chief P Kamalanathan, who is also Hulu Selangor Member of Parliament, said the BN charter took on a friendly approach at all religions and races, and at the same time emphasised the principles of Rukun Negara and the sovereignty of the Malay rulers.     

Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Mukhriz Mahathir said the charter could help BN win in the coming general election because it touched on all matters which formed the basis of BN's struggle.     

"Only that the leaders have forgotten and have to be reminded what actually helped to form the alliance in BN and the main reason for the people to have supported us for the 12th term," he added.     

Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said BN members from all component parties should do their part by giving meaning to the "new BN".     

"I think the 'new BN' carries the meaning of a party with progressive ideas to build a new society, a society with a wealth of knowledge and culture, is just, patriotic and environmentally sustainable, and is a scientific society that is building its civilisation," he said.
