Recruitment of disabled still low in civil service
Only six government agencies in the country adhered to the policy on the allocation of one per cent of the work force in the public sector to the disabled persons since it was enforced on April 1, 2008.
Only six government agencies in the country adhered to the policy on the allocation of one per cent of the work force in the public sector to the disabled persons since it was enforced on April 1, 2008.
Social Welfare Department deputy director-general (operation), Norani Mohd Hashim, said the policy, issued through a service circular in 2008, was however not made compulsory on government departments and agencies.
"The recruitment of the disabled people depends on application and job suitability.
"They do not want to be employed out of sympathy," she told a media conference on the national-level celebration to commemorate International Day of Disabled Persons at a hotel in Malacca today.
The programme is scheduled to be opened by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil tomorrow.
