A former DAP member from Nibong Tebal startled delegates and reporters at the party's convention in Komtar today when he brought a ‘coffin' for Bukit Mertajam MP Chong Eng.

penang dap convention 121210 teh hock yong and coffin 03 The member, Teh Hock Yong, known as ‘Sakura Teh', however, did not bring the coffin, measuring about 1 metre long, to the convention area, but instead held a press conference at the ground floor of Komtar at about 2pm.

At the convention venue on the fifth floor, 440 delegates went to polls to vote 15 leaders for the state party posts. There were 88 candidates contesting at the polls.

Teh, who was former Nibong Tebal DAP chief, criticised Chong Eng for holding too many posts in the party.

She is not only an MP since 1999, but the party's deputy secretary general and women chief.

"Despite all the posts, she seems to be still afraid to lose; after reading several new reports, the top leaders may have thought of bringing in new people," he added.

Teh was apparently upset with Chong Eng over a report on internet portal Free Malaysia Today , when the latter was asked if the former state DAP grassroots leader was the mastermind behind a plot to overthrow the current leadership.

Chong replied that he had supporters but added that Teh was no longer a member after he became bankrupt.

Teh denied being the mastermind, saying it was impossible for him to wield so much influence over others to stage a coup against the leaders.

He also ticked her off for only speaking to the English press about him, thinking that he does not understand the language.

"Please do not look down upon bankrupts; I am urging the group of people to rise up and teach Chong Eng a lesson," he added.

Teh said he did not mean his gift to be a coffin, but "a token of good wishes to send off" Chong Eng, adding that the box-like item would be sent directly to her home in Bukit Mertajam.

In an immediate response, Chong Eng dismissed Teh's remark, saying that if the ‘gift' were sent to her home, she would lodge a police report against him.
