The people, especially the business community, have been urged to be cautious when receiving RM100 ringgit bills as false notes were found in circulation at Kem Luasong, about 120km from Tawau, on Sunday.

Tawau police chief ACP Ibrahim Chin said the false notes came to their attention when a Sunday market trader in Kem Luasong lodged a police report yesterday, after being told by a bank that 10 RM100 notes that he had intended to bank in were false.

Ibrahim said the trader only realised that the RM100 notes were false when he went to the bank yesterday to deposit his collection from sales.

He said police would carry out a thorough investigation since it was a serious matter.

Suspects held for doc’s murder

On investigations into the murder of Dr Lim Tow Kiat at his house on Dec 8, Ibrahim said police had identified a number of suspects.

"Yesterday we detained three men and a woman to assist in the investigation," he said, adding that the doctor, who ran a private clinic, was from Johor.

Ibrahim called on the people not to panic because the 47-year-old doctor's murder was believed to be a "personal matter" between the victim and the suspects.
