The floods in the Kemaman district have worsened, forcing the evacuation of 839 people up to 9 am today.

A spokesperson of the Terengganu Security Council operations room said the evacuees were being house at 10 relief centres.

Only 166 people were moved out as at 10 pm yesterday.

The spokesperson said the road to Kerteh airport was flooded but was passable to all vehicles.

He told Bernama the floods were caused by heavy rain as well as high tide.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the State Drainage and Irrigation Department said the level of rivers in Kemaman and those of other major rivers in the state were normal.

He cautioned, however, that their levels could rise in a day or two if heavy rain continued to fall.
