The DAP disciplinary committee will convene a meeting next month to examine the recording of a contentious interview with the party’s central executive committee member Ronnie Liu.

Investigations were initiated after Malaysiakini published its interview with Liu, where he was reported claiming that vote-buying culture was creeping into DAP.

tan kok wai dap pc 010808 01 Committee chairperson Tan Kok Wai ( left ) has received a reply from Liu to the committee’s letter seeking additional information on the claims of vote-buying.

In the reply, Liu claimed that the Malaysiakini reports, published in English and Chinese, contained quotes attributed to him that were not verbatim, said Tan.

Tan said Liu claimed that his original quote was: “I fear money politics may find its way to enter our party”.

Liu also said that the English version of the report may have been out of context.

Zero tolerance for vote-buying

In view of this, the committee has decided to examine the video recording of the interview. At the time of writing, Malaysiakini has not received any request for the recordings from the committee.

NONE In the English version of the report, Liu ( right ) was quoted as saying: “I am so very worried that DAP will become another MCA... plagued with things like money politics.

“If you want to win, you have buy people dinner, send people for holidays. You have to promise candidacy and all that, promise them they’ll be councillor or village head. That is MCA.

“I don’t want DAP to be like that. We have only become the state government, we cannot afford to become like that... I think it is heading that way if we are not careful,” Liu had said.

Following this, the committee issued a letter to Liu, urging him to explain details of the said corrupt practices because his interview could damage the party’s reputation.

At the time, Tan said that the committee had to act on the interview because DAP has a zero tolerance for corruption and the party will take action on alleged vote-buying.
