The incentive offered for payment of summonses which were issued on or before Dec 1, 2010 is still open and the period has not expired, said police in a statement through its Facebook.

The statement said all summonses issued before the date would be automatically given a 50 percent reduction on payment at the police counters, post offices and through the Internet.

However, it said, summonses dated from Dec 1, 2010 would receive incentives of between 50 and 30 percent according to the time taken to settle them.

"Summonses paid within 15 days will be given an incentive of 50 percent from the actual compound rate, and those settled within 16 to 30 days will get 30 percent incentive from the actual compound.

"Those summonses not paid within 30 days will not be given any incentive and will be forthwith blacklisted," the statement said to allay public confusion over the period to pay the summonses.

In addition, the police also explained there were no "off-line" problem at its payment counters since the new incentive rates for payment of summonses were implemented with the exception of several technical problems which had already been resolved.
