The Johor Election Commission has issued a reminder that any form of campaigning for the Tenang by-election on Jan 30 is not allowed for the time being.

Its director Othman Noh said today that anyone campaigning before the period fixed to begin on Jan 22 can be charged under the Election Offences Act 1954.

NONE "However, we have not received any complaint about anyone campaigning," he told reporters in Johor Bahru.

Nomination day is Jan 22 for the by-election which follows the death of BN assemblyperson Sulaiman Taha on Jan 17 due to

diabetes-related blood infection.

Othman said that nomination forms for the by-election were already on sale  for RM20 a set. "Nobody has bought them so far, but we have received several enquiries."

He said the electoral rolls gazetted on Dec 17 showing that Tenang has 14,753 registered voters and 18 postal voters would be used for the  by-election.

Othman said that a police permit was required for ceramah sessions during campaigning, while permission was needed from the Labis district council to put up posters or banners.
