The Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) expects to resolve the problem of coconut shortage in several areas of the country within a week.
Its chairperson Badruddin Amiruldin said the Agriculture and Agro-bsed Industries Ministry had approved an increase in the quota to import coconuts from Indonesia.
"In a week's time, we would be able to overcome the shortage of coconuts in the country," he told reporters in Alor Setar today.
Usually in a week, a total of 25,000 coconuts are imported, but presently the imports have increased to 50,000 coconuts and if this is still not enough, the imports would be increased to 100,000 coconuts, he added.
