Moderate to heavy intermittent rain are expected to fall in Pahang, Terengganu and Johor continuously until tomorrow, the Meteorological Department said.

In a statement released today, the department said the affected areas in Pahang were the districts of Jerantut, Kuantan, Maran, Pekan and Rompin, while in southern Terengganu the areas were Dungun and Kemaman districts, and in east Johor the areas were Mersing and Kota Tinggi districts.

"The conditions may cause floods in the low-lying areas, especially those close to river banks," the statement said.

The department also said the warning of strong winds and rough sea conditions issued earlier still remained.

It said the north-easterly winds blowing at a speed of 60kph with waves from 5.5m high on the coasts of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, east Johor, Samui south, Tioman, Bunguran, Condore, Reef North and Layang-Layang were expected to continue until Monday Jan 3.

It will be dangerous for shipping and beach activities as well as fishing and ferry services.
