Port Klang assemblyperson Badrul Hisham Abdullah and his wife Ramizah Mazlan divorced on 'talak satu' in the Klang Syariah Lower Court today.

Syariah lawyer Mahyuddin Md Zahari, who represented Badrul Hisham, said the state assemblyman pronounced the 'talak' before judge Abdul Malik Soleh after Ramizah agreed to withdraw her 'fasakh' (to end marrriage on various grounds) application which she had filed.

"This case should still be at the hearing stage, but was amended after both parties, namely Badrul Hisham (the defendant) agreed to 'release' Ramizah (plaintiff) while the plaintiff agreed to withdraw her allegations and statements against the defendant in her fasakh application," he said today.

NONE On Feb 4 last year, Ramizah, 40, filed an application for fasakh divorce from Badrul Hisham, 51, at the registrar's office of the Syariah Lower Court, under Section 53 of the Selangor Family Law 2003.

Ramizah was represented by Syariah lawyer, Norrasyada Osman.

Badrul Hisham and Ramizah married on July 31, 1994 and they have five children.

Badrul Hisham, who was with PKR, quit the party on July 29, 2009 before becoming a BN-supporting independent assemblyman

but is now representing BN.

On Jan 24 this year, he was prevented from attending the state assembly sitting after Speaker Teng Chang Kim declared the Port Klang seat vacant on Jan 16, on the grounds that Badrul Hisham failed to attend the sittings for six months without a valid reason.

However, on Feb 18, the Shah Alam High Court decided that the Port Klang was not vacant and that Badrul Hisham was still its assemblyman.
