Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom has welcomed any decision by the parties involved in the sex video allegedly involving opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim to swear on the Quran.
“I do not know about the matter, but if it is true it is most welcomed for it can clear the air.
“We are very happy and thankful to Allah for it could resolve the issue that preoccupied the minds of Muslims,” he told reporters in Putrajaya today.
He was commenting on rumours that the opposition leader and Datuk Trio (three datuks who admitted to be behind the sex video scandal) were willing to swear on the Quran.
Jamil Khir said swearing on the Quran or sumpah laknat was meant to prove one’s innocence or clear one’s name.
Anwar has been urged by a local Malay daily to swear on the Quran before his supporters and the people to prove that he was not the man in the video.
