Gerakan Youth chief Lim Si Pin has mooted the use of viral online videos as part of a strategy to promote the BN's reform efforts.

In his policy speech at the Gerakan Youth AGM this morning, Lim said that this was a form of positive perception management to educate the public.

Gerakan youth conference He even mooted the idea of asking singer-songwriter-movie maker Namewee to produce these viral videos.

"If Namewee can do Undilah , he should also help us to do the viral videos to make sure (that the public knows) we are not behind electoral malpractices," said Lim ( left ).

He was referring to the PeteTeo produced public service announcement which encouraged the public to exercise their voting right.

The video features numerous Malaysian personalities in a music video featuring a tune composed by Namewee.

Lim ( left ) said he was sure that elections in Malaysia were fair.

Backing fair polls claim

"When I visited polling stations (during the 2008 general election), every vote was being scrutinised. The opposition's scrutineers were very aggressive.

NONE "Even if their hair fell on the ballot paper, they also wanted to see whether it was on their side or on ours. How can they say our election is not fair," he said in jest.

On negative perception management, Lim urged the BN to do away with the culture of having to rally component party members to greet Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak each time he returns from abroad.

"If people are sincere, they will come. We shouldn't project an air of arrogance and self importance," he said.

Lim also called on the BN council to arrive at decisions for the cabinet instead of the current system where certain ministers from certain parties make decisions on different matters.

Meaning to power sharing wanting

Citing the example of vernacular schools, Lim said MCA, MIC and the Gerakan had to "beg and beg" for new schools to be established.

"If this is a power-sharing coalition government, shouldn't this be planned right from the very beginning at the BN council level?" he asked.

These three suggestions were part of seven proposals for the BN to transform itself.

At the closing of his address, Lim urged Youth wing delegates to remain steadfast and push for reforms, citing how Gerakan had played a role in the repeal of the Internal Security Act (ISA).

"On July 31, 2009 we were the first political party to march to the Istana to protesting against and calling for an end to the ISA.

"But, instead of welcoming it, civil society booed, ridiculed and attacked us left, right and centre over the social media, especially Malaysiakini , for being the fools of the day," he said
