Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) secretary-general Abdul Rahman Othman today claimed that his son was assaulted by Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters in Putrajaya, where he was helping his father campaign.

He said his son, Abdullah, who is in his mid-20s, was approached by four youths while he was distributing leaflets in the vicinity of Precinct 16 and punched under the eye.

"There were four of them and two were wearing BN jackets. They told (Abdullah) that he was creating a disturbance in the area," he claimed.

Abdullah's companion, another party worker, was not harmed.

At press time, Abdul Rahman said his son was in the process of lodging a police report over the incident.

The Keadilan secretary-general is contesting for the newly-created Putrajaya parliamentary seat against BN's Umno Wilayah chief Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

The constituency has only about 5,000 registered voters, the majority of whom are civil servants. However, a victory in the administrative capital would be highly symbolic.

Seconder pressured

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman also complained of another case of harassment against one of his supporters.

He said his seconder Fathullah Uzir Abdullah was allegedly pressured by his rival to withdraw from endorsing the Keadilan leader as candidate for the seat.

Fathullah had lodged a police report in Putrajaya yesterday over the incident.

The Keadilan secretary-general said he will be making an official protest to the Election Commission at noon tomorrow.

Slanderous pamphlet

In another development, a police report was lodged regarding a pamphlet which allegedly slanders Terengganu Umno liaison deputy chairperson Idris Jusoh.

His media officer Roslan Abdul Rahman lodged the report with the Kuala Terengganu district police headquarters at about 1.30pm.

Roslan said the report was made because of the existence of pamphlets slandering Idris.

The reports were still displayed at the Pasar Kedai Payang notice board, which is under the supervision of the Kuala Terengganu Municipal Council (MPKT).

"Idris ( photo ) has obtained an injunction from the Appeals Court which prohibited such actions.

"Such acts by certain parties clearly are in contempt of the court," he was quoted as saying in a Bernama report.

Idris is contesting at the Jertih state seat in the March 21 general election. His opponent will be PAS' Mohd Hassan Salleh.
