The Malacca government will gazette the Tun Fatimah Stadium in Bandar Melaka and the Hang Jebat Stadium in Kerubong as venues for demonstrations or protests by any quarters in the state.

Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam said the matter, in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Act 2011 recently passed by Parliament, was decided by the state executive council members at yesterday’s meeting.

“Anyone is allowed to hold any protest at these two places, but do it in a civilised and decent way,” he told reporters after visiting the Perfect Food Manufacturing (M) Sdn Bhd factory in Alor Gajah today.

During the visit, he met the workers and was briefed on the factory operations by its manager, Sai Ah Sai, and general manager (operations) Ng Teng Chai.

Mohd Ali said operators of food-based industries were encouraged to open their factories in Malacca, especially at the halal hub in Serkam, Jasin.

Meanwhile, Ng said the factory, which produced Julie’s biscuits, began operations in 1979 with 200 workers.

Last year, he said, the company recorded sales worth RM210 million and now it had 960 workers.

“We export our halal products to more than 60 countries, including the Arab countries and China,” he added.
