MCA president Chua Soi Lek is upbeat that speculation about DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang contesting in Johor in the upcoming general election (GE) will not materialise.

When asked today whether he is prepared to face off with Lim in the GE, Chua said, “I don’t think he is contesting in Johor.

“If you ask me personally, I think he is not contesting in Johor. But if you want to know what is the reason for that, I will tell you when the time comes,” he said.

Asked again if he would take on Lim if the latter really stands in the BN stronghold state, Chua’s answer was non-committal.

“If he really does that, I will be the first person to tell you where I stand,” he said.

It was reported last week that Lim may lead DAP heavyweight politicians such as Teo Nie Ching and Fong Po Kuan to contest in Johor, his home state, in a bid to assail the BN fortress.

Johor DAP chief Boo Cheng Hau had said that the matter has never been discussed at the state committee level but he welcomed such a move.

When asked whether he is worried about the DAP onslaught, Chua said his greatest concern is about DAP giving false hopes.

“As far as misleading, giving false hopes, DAP gets the Oscar award hands up and hands down.

“And sometimes the voters can be misled,” he said. 

He urged the Chinese voters to think about Lim’s contributions to the community in his 40 years’ tenure as a parliamentarian, and whether the position of Chinese community “has been enhanced or eroded”.

Meanwhile, Chua slammed the PAS-led Kedah government for enacted an “undemocratic” new law that bans the state fatwa to be challenged in court, daring the DAP to respond to the issue.

He also urged the DAP leadership to response to its vice-chairperson Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim’s stance that Bersih holding its rally in Dataran Merdeka is inappropriate.
