Former minister Megat Junid Megat Ayub in a statutory declaration made available to sacked deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim's defence team today said that he does not believe in any of the sexual allegations made by Ummi Hafilda Ali in her letters to Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

"I have known Anwar for more than 30 years and I have never heard of any sexual misconduct involving women and any homosexual activity or sodomy," said Megat Junid in the statement.

"Until today I do not believe those allegations and believe that they are completely slanderous. I would also like to confirm in my knowledge that Aziz Shamsuddin, former Mahathir's political secretary, was never "ngam" (Cantonese for 'friendly') with Anwar."

Megat Junid's sworn statement was made on March 27 before Commissioner of Oaths T. Thanapalasingam. When contacted by malaysiakini , Thanapalasingam confirmed Megat Junid signed the statement before him.

However, he said that the former deputy home minister made "some changes" to the original document. Thanapalasingam declined to elaborate on whether the changes will effectively alter the substance of his earlier statement.

Attempts to contact Megat Junid in his Kelana Jaya home were futile as his wife informed that the former minister was out playing golf with friends.

Anwar's lawyers served Megat Junid with a subpoena to testify at the ongoing sex trial. The one-time heir apparent to the prime minister post alleges Megat Junid's evidence will expose the political conspiracy to topple him from power.

Megat Junid was reported by Harakah to have visited Anwar in the court's lock-up last week and apologised to the former deputy premier. However, he denied that he had cried during the meeting as reported by the tabloid.

Anwar is serving a six-year jail term for corruption and stands trial on a separate charge of sodomy and sexual misconduct.

He has repeatedly denied all charges and says they were fabricated to ruin his political career.
