Hong Kong airport world's No 1, KLIA second
HONG KONG (AFP) - Hong Kong's airport has been named the world's best airport for 2001, the airport authorities said.
"It is extremely gratifying to be honoured in such a way in less than three years after airport opening. Given the very high standards of the other airports, we are very happy indeed," David Pang, AA chief executive officer of the Airport Authority, said in a statement.
Hong Kong international airport emerged as the winner in a survey conducted on 412,000 passengers by the Britain-based airline and air-travel industry research company Skytrax.

Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur International Airport was voted second best in the survey, followed by Singapore's Changi.
Passengers were asked to rate airports for ease of use, signposting, accessibility, ease of transfer, passsenger facilities and terminal comfort.
Helsinki's Vantaa airport was named the best airport in Europe, followed by Amsterdam's Schiphol and Copenhagen. Dubai's new airport moved straight into top spot for the Middle East category.
Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok airport, which opened in July 1998, cost US$9 billion to build.
