The Malaysian Government Pensioners Association (PPKM) has urged the government to take stern action against any group or individual who insult the royal institution.

Its president, Wan Mahmood Pawan Teh, said the PPKM would also not remain quiet but would go against whoever insulted the monarchy.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 26th annual delegates meeting of the PPKM by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, in Kangar last night, he also urged the government to formulate a more specific legislation to punish those who insulted the royalty.

He also hoped that the social website would not be used arbitrarily to insult the monarchy or create racial tension.

"The PPKM does not deny the freedom of expression but such expression should not be too extreme to the extent of touching racial sensitivity," he said.

Wan Mahmood said the government pensioners should always contribute towards national development and joining the PPKM would provide them a platform to contribute ideas towards this objective.
