Police are waiting for anti-crime activist R Sri Sanjeevan to regain consciousness at Hospital Serdang, so that they can interview him.

NONE Criminal Investigation Department chief Hadi Ho Abdullah said this is in addition to interviewing the friend who was in the car Sanjeevan was driving when he was shot on July 27.

"We are still investigating and we have some information that we are probing,” he said.

"In the meantime, it is important to interview Sri Sanjeevan and we hope we can do that as soon as possible when the hospital allows us to.”

Sanjeevan, 29, who heads anti-crime NGO MyWatch, was shot in the chest about 4.30pm by two men on a motorcycle, while driving in Bahau, Negri Sembilan.

He survived the attack by speeding off after being hit by the first bullet, which is lodged in his rib-cage.

NONE Sanjeevan is recuperating at Hospital Serdang but is unconscious due to the drugs he has been given to allow him to recover.

At a press conference in the Bukit Aman police headquarters this morning, Hadi also urged anyone with more information on the case to assist in the investigation.

He reiterated that police had initially picked up Sanjeevan's friend for alleged involvement in drug activities and that this was not linked to the shooting.

“He was picked up by the narcotics department ... It was coincidental. When (the shooting happened), the narcotics department said 'this is the person we are looking for' and detained him under the Dangerous Drugs Act,” he said.

The friend, however, denied any knowledge of the shooting beyond what he had witnessed, added Hadi.

MyWatch patron and former Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan has claimed that the shooting may be related to Sanjeevan's intended expose linking police with crime syndicates.
