Twenty families were made homeless by a fire that razed two longhouses they have been living in for the past 20 years in Kampung Chubadak Jaya, Sentul in Kuala Lumpur today.

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Service assistant director of operations Azizan Ismail said no one was injured in the fire which occurred at about 3pm and forced several occupants to run for safety.

“Firemen managed to bring the blaze under control in an hour. The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained,” he told Bernama .

Azizan said the fire-fighting operation ran into difficulty due to a lack of water sources at the location and a strong wind that fanned the flames.

Twenty-seven firemen rushed to the scene in eight trucks from the Sentul, Hang Tuah, Setapak and Gombak Selatan fire and rescue stations.
