PAS information chief Mahfuz Omar has admitted that he is facing the daunting task of repairing the image of PAS which has been dented in recent months.

He however did not specify as to what that had affected the party’s image in his winding-up speech at the PAS muktamar yesterday.

However, when contacted by Malaysiakini , the Pokok Sena MP said the issue is related to its “handling of the Selangor MB crisis”.

“We must admit that PAS’ image has been affected since before Hari Raya until today. If we deny this, then we would be lying.

“I admit that the work of the party’s information bureau is heavy, to recover the dented image of the party which is the result of disorganised party management.

Mahfuz gave assurance that his team will increase information programmes to recover PAS’ image.

The Kedah state PAS commissioner however said the differing opinions in PAS did not mean they did not respect one another.

He compared this to an incident where a PAS leader had crumpled a piece of paper before throwing it at a former president’s face.

“Good manners are still practiced and not just with the president although everyone has their own opinion,” he said.

Meanwhile, PAS vice president Salahuddin Ayub ( right ) in his speech yesterday, came to the defence of his colleagues in the party’s central committee who had been labeled as liberals.

He challenged those who had given such labels to expose the “liberal” individuals.

“This labeling is not good. If there are liberals, identify who they are. Is it Khalid Samad, Dzulkefly Ahmad, Mujahid Yusof Rawa or Hanipa Maidin?

“Prepare the stage for a debate. The debate session could be a closed one without the media. If it is true (that there are liberals), you don’t have to seek the disciplinary committee, we can expel them,” he said.
