Sultan slams PKR in pro-Khalid speech
Selangor sultan singles out PKR as having engaged in “instigating and mudslinging” in their bid to oust the menteri besar.
Selangor’s Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah today did not hide his displeasure with Pakatan Rakyat for having caused a political crisis in the state.
Siding with ousted menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, the sultan singled out PKR as having engaged in "instigating and mudslinging".
He said the whole crisis was "sparked" by the Kajang Move and the bid to remove Khalid ( right ), who was sacked from PKR for refusing to resign as MB.
"PKR continued with their agenda, even during the holy month of Ramadan, by maligning and condemning (Khalid) until they reached their goal of ousting Khalid as MB," he said.
The sultan thanked Khalid for performing his duty "completely and successfully" and for maintaining good ties with the palace.
He said the crisis had opened his “eyes and heart and shaped (his) views” on the Selangor political situation, but reminded all that politicians come and go.
The ruler said that as sultan, he is the only person who will rule over the state to the end of his life .
He was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Selangor executive council (exco) members at Istana Alam Shah in Klang.
The new exco line-up comes with the appointment of PKR deputy president Azmin Ali as menteri besar.
Stay united, serve the people
The sultan urged the new excos to consolidate their differences, throw their full support behind Azmin ( left ), the new menteri besar and live up to their mandate to serve the people.
"The rakyat does not want to see a Selangor in chaos nor do they want to live in fear and hardship," he added.
In his speech, the Selangor rule ralso urged Malays and Muslims to be united and to reject extremism.
"I don’t want Malays and Muslims to be divided and to malign each other to the extent of eroding Malay unity.
"I fear that if this continues, one day it will lead to the destruction of the Malays.
"Where will the Malays go then? I always pray that Allah opens their hearts to the truth and that they will always unite in protecting and preserving our motherland.
"Don’t be easily tricked to the point of giving up your own dignity for personal gain," he said.
