The fear of the Penang state government on the plan to build a new airport in Kulim, Kedah is unfounded as the state’s economic position is strong particularly in the tourism sector.
State Opposition Leader Jahara Hamid ( right ) (BN-Telok Air Tawar) said the Penang state government should not have any fear if it had good economic planning.
“Whatever Kedah wants to plan is up to the state government. If they want to build an airport, would all the tourists go to Kulim? We already have a stronger tourism industry than Kedah.
“If we don’t maintain all the existing infrastructure, then all the tourists will run away. For me, this is a healthy competition and I don’t see any reason why we should have any fear,” she told the state assembly sitting today.
She said this when she stood up in response to a question from RSN Rayer DAP-Seri Delima) on the stand of the Barisan Nasional (BN) elected representatives on the plan to build a new airport in Kulim, Kedah.
