Sarawak DAP today hit back at Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu Anak Numpang for saying the party is the number one enemy of the state’s progress.

What happened to other ‘enemies’ of the state – for example, corruption, cronyism, illegal logging and illegal cyber gambling, asks DAP vice-chairperson Leon Jimat Donald.

“Have these vices been relegated so far down to a point where they have no significance in the state's list of enemies?” Donald asked.

He said that Jabu’s statement is just a red herring to distract the rakyat from real issues affecting the state.

He said that DAP is ” not against development but against “crony enrichment at the expense of the people”.

“There has yet to be a millionaire amongst land participants who have been advocated by Jabu for many years through state-managed land development,” he said.

Donald points out that Jabu’s hatred for DAP is understandable.

The state leader ( left ) is facing intense pressure from DAP's presence in Betong over the issue of land title renewal which has plagued  the residents there all these years.

Intense pressure from DAP, forced  the Lands and Surveys Department to  agree to renew the land owners’ titles.

The issue has made voters in Layar – which is Jabu’s constituency – recognise that DAP champions people’s rights, claimed Donald.

The performance of Jabu, who is also PBB deputy president, in Layar has undergone extra scrutiny by opposition leaders.

Donald said PKR Betong division chairperson Vernon Kedit had been highlighting Jabu’s ‘failures” in the Layar constituency, which he has represented for over 40 years.

Kedit alleged that the Layar constituency is one of the most neglected areas among those represented by PBB leaders.
