The BN Youth, who held their meeting in Kuching yesterday, have urged the federal government to re-examine some of the 20-points in the Malaysia Agreement which have become sore issues for Sabah and Sarawak since the formation of Malaysia  more than 51 years ago.

National BN Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin told a media conference that the BN Youth wanted the federal government to re-examine the agreement to ensure that every point that had not been enforced to be complied with.

“This is to ensure that the three regions of Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak would be equal administrative partners,” he said.

This was one of the resolutions adopted by the BN Youth wings of the BN following concerns expressed by both Sabah and Sarawak BN youths.

“The BN Youth have begun to realise that some key points in the agreement have not been adhered to by many quarters.

“We want leaders of the country to re-examine those points,” said Khairy, pointing out that this was an aspiration of the young generation in BN in achieving a true Malaysian concept.

One of the sore points that have been highlighted by Sabah and Sarawak politicians is the relegation of the Borneo states into 12th and 13th states when in fact they should have been equal partners with Malaya in the federation.

The other important resolution adopted by the meeting is to urge the federal  government to do away with the category ‘Lain-lain’ on government forms to describe the natives of Sabah and Sarawak and be replaced by ‘Bumiputera Sarawak’ or ‘Bumiputera Sabah’.

“This way, it will not be seen as a discrimination against the natives of the Borneo states.

“All these resolutions will be forwarded to the government for immediate action,” said Khairy, who is Umno Youth chief.
