Selangor Umno deputy chairperson Abdul Shukor Idrus said the BN is not interested in finding a replacement for the post of state opposition leader  for now.

Yesterday, Sungai Burong representative Shamsudin Lias resigned as the state opposition leader.

Shukor also said the decision not to take up the post was because it would require the person to also head the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), thus becoming a "puppet and powerless" in the committee.

"They (Pakatan Rakyat) are not genuine. When appointed as chairperson (of PAC), the person must be given the mandate to choose his committee," Shukor ( right ) told Malaysiakini .

"But this does not happen as their people form the majority. So there is no point (in becoming PAC chairperson), to be reduced to a puppet," he added.

Selangor BN chief Noh Omar said yesterday he was not interested taking up the state opposition leader post and had even asked his lawyers to review whether the position was necessary to be filled by a BN assemblyperson.

"If it (the position) is not mandatory, maybe we should not have an opposition leader as we all come from the same party," Antarapos reported Noh as saying.

'We can take turns as opposition leader'

Meanwhile, Shukor said today that he has also asked his side to look into the matter and would assess the state assembly laws as to whether an opposition leader must be elected.

“If not, all 12 of us assemblypersons can take turns to become the state opposition leader,” he said.

Shukor said even if the opposition leader was elected from among the Umno assemblypersons, it would be pointless as they cannot make a decision in PAC, which has a membership of two BN assemblypersons and six from Pakatan.

“They claim that they are being transparent about the state expenses but they do not give full power and they (Pakatan members) make up the  majority.

“That is why Shamsudin Lias felt that he should not be elected as PAC chairperson,” Shukor added.
