After Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the change of road names in Kuala Lumpur was not at the request of the Conference of Rulers but was decided by his ministry, his deputy M Loga Bala is backpedalling his stand.

Loga Bala, who had previously said that it was the Rulers' Council that had asked for some roads to be renamed, conceded that his boss is correct.

"His version lah. He is the minister, how can my version be right?" he told a press conference in Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur.

"I am not admitting anything. I am just telling you, the minister's version stands.

"If you want to use a legal term, the minister's version stands. Because he is the boss," Loga Bala said when asked if he was acknowledging that he had been wrong.

Asked if this was disrespectful to the Ruler's Council, as he previously said it was their idea to change the names of the roads, the senator merely replied, "no comment".

'Check facts if statements are inconsistent'

Earlier in the press conference, Loga Bala told reporters that they should verify statements made if they find them inconsistent, rather than simply reporting both sides of stories without confirming the facts.

However, when asked to respond to the inconsistent statements between him and Tengku Adnan, he initially declined to comment on the matter.

"I am not going to comment on that. It's already done by my minister. Please go to him for answer.

“He already made the decision, I am not going to comment on that,” he said.

Only after reporters grilled him on which version was correct, Loga Bala replied that his "boss" is correct.

The Kuala Lumpur City Council in a recent statement announced new names for Jalan Duta, Jalan Khidmat Usaha, Jalan Ipoh, Persiaran Duta, Jalan Khidmat Setia, Jalan Ibadah, Lebuhraya Mahameru, Persiaran Mahameru and Jalan Semarak.

Loga Bala then said the Rulers' Council had asked for some roads in Kuala Lumpur to be renamed after the rulers.

However, according to Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, the Conference of Rulers has never made or approved any resolution to rename eight main roads in the federal capital after the country’s former Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Tengku Adnan had also said the change of names of nine roads in the city was not at the request of the Conference of Rulers but was decided by the Federal Territories Ministry.

Also, in an interview with The Star , Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah also indicated that the move to rename several roads after past Malaysian rulers did not come from the rulers.

He said that as far as he knew, it came from the Ministry of Federal Territories and that the ministry had withdrawn the proposal at the Conference of Rulers.
