Recent criminal activities, including murders committed by foreign security guards with fake Malaysian identity cards and Pakistani taxi drivers holding identity cards purporting to be Sabahans are a tip of the iceberg, says Star Sabah chief Jeffrey Kitingan.

“Their activities are just like a time bomb that will explode anytime,” Jeffrey said, pointing out that there were probably about 1.5 million foreigners holding Malaysian identity cards said to have bene issued in Sabah.

Commenting on the on-going Tanduo terrorism trial, he said several items, including a MyKad, were recovered from the suspect.

The evidence unearthed not only corroborated with the findings of the RCI Report, but also showed that the Sabah security problem was ‘self-inflicted’ by the federal government in giving ICs and MyKad to ineligible foreigners and with it, voting rights, Jeffrey said in a statement.

Malaysians, he added, have awoken to this threat of fake Sabah/Malaysian MyKad holders who are actually foreign criminals, including murderers.

'Just a tip of the iceberg'

“They are just the tip of the iceberg and over a time, their criminal activities will be like a time bomb that will explode not in Sabah but in the peninsula as self,” Jeffrey warned.

Pointing out that the RCI missed a golden opportunity to carry out a deeper investigation, he said it should have re-convened itself to hear the evidence from these IC holders, security guards, taxi drivers, general workers and the Ambank murder-cum-robbery suspect.

A deeper investigation into the issuance of these fake ICs could have unearthed a new dimension on the illegal immigrants from the additional evidence, he said, adding that it could also have provided an invaluable insight into the penetration of these foreigners in the government service, army, police and security forces.

Jeffrey believes there will be deep-rooted and serious problems arising from the illegally issued ICs and MyKad and the entry of foreigners into the electoral roll.

“We need to be warned that, like the militants in Southern Philippines, they are armed, trained and financed by the federal government. This was openly acknowledged by MNLF leader Nur Misuari himself.

“The whole country, its sovereignty and security are at stake,” he warned.
