Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has described the police report filed by a party division leader against the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) as a personal matter.

He said the report filed last week by Batu Kawan Umno deputy chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan was not supported by the latter’s division leadership or the Penang Umno liaison committee.

"It is an individual action, and 1MDB follows the existing guidelines," he told reporters.

Zahid ( right ), who is also home minister, said since a police report has been lodged, an investigation would be carried out.

"The police will open an investigation paper and probe the matter as per standard procedure," he added.

On another matter, Zahid also commented on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's statement that non-Muslims in the state can use the term 'Allah'.

"We have proof of his statement, let Jakim (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) and the Penang Islamic council to explain to him (Lim)," he said.

The police are currently investigating the matter after a report was lodged.

The chief minister was quoted as saying that the prohibition on the use of the 'Allah' word as spelt out in the Penang Islamic Administration Enactment 2004 was not applicable to non-Muslims as the enactment's enforcement was only for Muslims.

However, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has defended Lim.
