The Federal Territories Islamic Affairs Department (Jawi) is still waiting for four tudung-clad girls who hugged South Korean pop group celebrities on stage during a concert recently to meet with it.

"Our hope is still the same - with open arms, we hope they will come to see us," Jawi director Paimuzi Yahya told Malaysiakini today.

Asked whether the girls would be given counselling or face any other form of action if they decided to meet Jawi, Paimuzi replied, "In legal speak, the case is still under investigation".

A video showing the girls interacting with a South Korean boyband, B1A4, during a mini-concert recently went viral on the Internet.

In the video, members of the K-Pop group were seen interacting with the girls and subsequently hugged them on stage.

A band member also kissed one of the girls on the forehead.

Another member moved his face close to one of the girls, but she backed off.

Some of the girls appeared excited while others were shy and nervous, but reciprocated when they were hugged.

Jawi is investigating the girls for public indecency under Section 29 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act.

The issue was first brought to light when Youth and Sports Minister Khairi Jamaluddin tweeted in sarcasm over local girls preferring South Korean pop stars.

The issue since then has been much debated on the social media, with some saying Jawi had over-reacted and the girls had done nothing wrong.

Others said that the girls were an example of how wayward youths are nowadays.
