PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang today said the president post in PAS can be challenged.

This is despite the fact that there has never been a contest for the position in the party’s 63-year history.

He said this when asked by reporters if the presidency is up for grabs in the party elections this June.

"Can it be challenged? Yes," he said today when met.

He, however, declined to say if he will defend the post.

"You will have to ask the delegates that during the general assembly," he said, referring to the assembly on June 4-6.

Whether Hadi will hold on to the post he has held for 15 years is now a hot topic after Kota Bharu PAS division nominated incumbent vice president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man ( left ) for the position.

Tuan Ibrahim, however, declined the nomination and today said he is open to challenging the deputy president post.

Earlier, deputy president Mohamad Sabu came under fire when a recording purported to be of him plotting to oust Hadi surfaced on the Internet.

Mohamad declined to comment on the matter which is now being probed by PAS.
