KINIBIZ Patients will be charged the 6 percent goods and services tax (GST) on fees for private consultant services received at private hospitals, Pantai Holdings Bhd CEO Ahmad Shahizam Shariff told reporters today.

Speaking at the Khazanah-IHH Healthcare Fund update session at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, he said, “This morning the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) had a dialogue session with the Royal Customs Department, and this was chaired by the Customs director-general Khazali Ahmad.

“Previously, there was no clarity as to what is the status of the fees charged by private independent consultants who see patients at private hospitals.

“This morning, Customs confirmed the position that private independent consultants at private hospitals are standard rated, which means fees for their services will have GST of 6 percent levied to patients,” Ahmad Shahizam said.

Pantai Holdings Bhd is a subsidiary of IHH Healthcare, which is the world’s second largest listed hospital provider according to market capitalisation.
