Sarawak's expected collection of RM291 million in goods and services tax (GST) from April until the end of the year can contribute 62.6 percent towards the purchase of the private jet which premier Najib Abdul Razak recently bought for RM465 million.

 

Revenue collection from GST appears to be for the nation’s leaders to squander, Padungan assemblyperson Wong King Wei ( right ) alleged in a statement.

“It is not for the people’s benefit.

“And if this continues, no matter how much taxes are collected from the rakyat, it is not enough to fill the bottomless hole of BN’s spending,” said Wong, who is the state DAP Youth chief.

He said that Sarawakians worked sweat, blood and tears to pay GST, and yet the collection for this year will not be enough for the prime minister to buy a new jet.

Forcing GST on people

“It is so clear to us that life is hard for the rakyat, but the government is indifferent towards the people’s plight, forcing GST on the people and causing everyone to pay taxes to the BN government.

“Even business people are coerced into using their resources to levy tax for the government. This has turned business owners into tax collectors for the BN government,” Wong claimed, pointing out that there would be no qualms from the people if their hard earned money are being used properly.

He said Sarawakians are disgusted and abhorred by the purchase of the private jet.

“Do Malaysians have to feed these corrupt leaders generations after generations?” Wong asked.
