'Promote Hadi's ideas, don't tongue-lash DAP'
PAS MUKTAMAR The ideas of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang should be expounded to the party’s Pakatan Rakyat allies, instead of engaging them in a war of words, PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat says.
Suhaizan told PAS Youth delegates at the wing's muktamar last night that if not, PAS would be essentially behaving like how Umno members would defend their president, without any substance.
"If we provoke (DAP and PKR) and merely express our support for Hadi, I believe this will affect his reputation, (because we will look like) Umno. The rakyat won't like that.
"(Instead, we should talk) in a gentle way. We must promote Hadi's ideas," Suhaizan said in addressing criticism that he does not go all out to defend the president from DAP and PKR.
Following DAP's decision to cut ties with Abdul Hadi over his alleged dishonesty and lack of commitment towards Pakatan, several top PAS leaders have attacked DAP and accused it of hypocrisy and attempts to interfere in the internal elections of the Islamic party.
Suhaizan said ugly public spats are very damaging for Pakatan's public image and that the people could see that this does not happen in BN.
"I told the president that we are in a crisis and we have a huge problem. But the president said this is not a crisis, but only a case of iktilaf (differences in opinion).
"Upon reflection, I think this is true. If it was indeed a crisis, there would be collisions (among the parties). But if it is just iktilaf, it means (the Pakatan component parties) do share some similarities," he said.
Suhaizan said his conversation with the party president had inspired him to promote the book Fiqh al Iktilaf (Managing differences of opinion) to PAS Youth members as a recommended literature.
He also organised a seminar named after the book, in April, in order to promote the idea.
