Former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu has accepted defeat, but is scratching his head after receiving what he believes to be an odd number of votes.

Mat Sabu, as he is widely known, received 279 votes last night, with the winner Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man receiving 881 votes.

"I accept the result, but the votes I received, I got an odd number of votes," he told Malaysiakini .

However, Mat Sabu did not elaborate what he meant by the “odd number”, as he walked swiftly to enter the Stadium Tertutup Kuala Selangor, where the muktamar is being held.

The PAS elections this year became a hot issue after the "chai" or a list on who to vote for were published by the ulama faction.

This is believed to have contributed to the overwhelming victory of the ulama team led by re-elected party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

The factor also made a clean sweep of the posts on the central committee as well as the Youth and Muslimat wings.

Asked about his plans after yesterday's election results, Mat Sabu said he has not come to any decision as yet.

"I want to rest for a while," he said before moving into the assembly hall.
