The Finance Ministry has failed to locate business tycoon Low Taek Jho to issue him a summons to attend the Public Accounts Committee's (PAC) Sept 8 hearing on 1MDB business dealings.

"We don't know where he is. We have to find him first," said PAC chairman Nur Jazlan Mohamed when contacted by Malaysiakini .

"We have asked the Finance Ministry to find him. If they don't know where he is, how are they going to give him the (summons) letter?" he asked.

The Pulai MP said he laid hope that with the media's wide coverage, Low, better knowns as Jho Low, would know that he was sought by the PAC to explain the issues surrounding 1MDB.

"He would have known about this through the press reports since two days ago [...] he should come voluntarily to explain," said Nur Jazlan ( photo ).

PAC had decided to call Low as witness in light of Auditor-General's interim report on 1MDB which submitted to the PAC on July 9.

Besides Low, the government is also looking for two other former investment directors of  1MDB - Jasmine Looi and Casey Tang - whom have also been summoned to the hearing but cannot be located.

Hearings next month

Other witnesses who have been summoned before the PAC include 1MDB chief investment officer Vincent Koh, 1MDB general counsel Ivan Chen, its executive director of finance Terrance Geh, its financial officer Azmi Tahir and 1MDB Investment Holdings Limited director Shahrul Helmi.

The next PAC hearing fixed from Aug 4 to Aug 6 and from August 17 and 18 will see both of 1MDB's former chief executive officers and former executive directors giving their statements.

The committee has also summoned Brazen Sky Sdn Bhd director Azmi Tahir to appear before it on September 9.
