Former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin today questioned if the multi-agency special task force had been disbanded to derail investigations on 1MDB.

"People ask why efforts (to probe 1MDB) have been disrupted. (It is) as though it can't continue smoothly and that there is intereference.

"Why were there certain actions taken against certain quarters who are investigating this matter?" he asked at the Kemaman Umno division annual meeting today.

Muhyiddin was commenting on Attorney-General Mohamad Apandi Ali's move to disband the task force initiated by his predecessor Abdul Gani Patail.

Among others, the task force consisted of police, MACC and Bank Negara representatives.

Up until July, the task force had been providing regular updates on investigations into 1MDB-related matters.

Not happy with PAC delay

Muhyiddin was commenting on the attempted transfer of two top MACC officials to the prime minister's department and the police probe and raid on MACC.

Although the task force was no more, Muhyiddin said that those who were part of the investigations should still follow through.

"Bank Negara needs to look into financial laws, the MACC needs to look at graft and police need to see if there are criminal elements. They need to act," he said.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said the cabinet's decision not to call for a special parliament seating to elect new members to the Public Accounts Committee had also thrown a spanner at the 1MDB probe.

"We have to wait till October. This means that efforts to summon those who need to testify can't be done," he said.

The decision to wait till the October session is apparently so the government can weigh how to reshuffle the Selections Committee which Muhyiddin is currently part of, to reflect changes in the government.
