"The AMK safety team Skuad will officially be helping out at the Bersih 4 rally to ensure it progresses peacefully and safely for everyone.
"They have undergone training and have been given briefings on the Bersih 4 rally," Nik Nazmi told a press conference in Petaling Jaya today.
According to him, there will be 700 Skuad members deployed for the rally.
Nik Nazmi ( photo ) said AMK lawyers will also be on standby to help the Bersih 4 legal team in the event of police detentions and arrests.
AMK, he said, would also be sending all its members to join the Bersih 4 rally in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu as the party fully supports Bersih's demands.
The mammoth rally to be held on Aug 29 and 30 in Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu is to demand four things: 1) Clean elections; 2) Clean governance; 3) Save the economy; and 4) Preserving the right to dissent.
Free Anwar too
Nik Nazmi said they would also demand a fifth objective that is the immediate release of their de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, who was convicted and jailed in February for sodomy.
He is currently serving a five-year sentence at the Sungai Buloh Prison.
"Anwar's rights and health must be prioritised," Nik Nazmi said.
He also denounced the action by the police to call in several AMK leaders for questioning with regards to the 'AMK Convoy - Bersih Merdeka' event that was held last Sunday.
He also said he fully supports the #LangkahSiswa movement by a group of students calling for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's resignation ( photo ).
The students have vowed to stay on at Parliament Square until Najib responds to them.
