The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) expressed its opinion that the investigation of former PetroSaudi International executive Xavier Andre Justo should be left to the police as they have already opened an investigation paper on this matter.
MACC investigation division director Azam Baki said the police should be given the space to handle the probe.
“If the police finds any elements of corruption in the case, they can continue with the investigation as the police also have the power to investigate matters pertaining to corruption.
“However, if the police thinks that the case should be investigated by the MACC, the MACC is willing to assist the police, and we also need help from the police to get access to obtain evidence from Justo who is now imprisoned in Thailand,” Azam said in a statement.
According to a Bernama report, the police have uncovered a plot to topple the government based on evidence from their Thai counterpart.
The scheme, the police claimed, was being executed through a media campaign aimed at attacking 1MDB.
Thai police sources said Swiss national Justo had provided investigators with a detailed timeline on the conspiracy to undermine the Malaysian government put together by parties led by Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown over the last six months.
