After the last general election, MCA was mocked as the ‘7-11' convenience store party due to it winning only seven parliament and 11 state seats.

If the Chinese continue to vote against it in the next polls, party deputy president Wee Ka Siong said MCA might become “1+3D DaMaCai”, with only one parliament and three state seats.

Such a scenario, he added, would make it more difficult for MCA to fight for the interests of the Chinese community within the BN framework.

"In the worst case scenario, if MCA suffers another major defeat in the next general election, the chances of success in fighting for the Chinese community's legitimate demands would be similar to that of striking a 'lottery'," he warned during his speech at the MCA Youth annual meet in Kuala Lumpur today.

In the 13th general election, Wee said the Chinese community backed DAP but gained nothing in return.

"When the opposition pact continues with their infighting, they stand to lose their existing urban constituencies as well.

"Umno, the single largest party in the Dewan Rakyat, is very likely to remain the single largest party in the Dewan Rakyat after the next general election," he added.

'With DAP, Chinese stays in the opposition'

UMNO has 88 seats in the august house, while DAP is second largest party, obtaining 37 seats.

He also told young people not to be "obsessed" with DAP, let alone believing the newly-formed Pakatan Harapan can actually bring ‘ harapan ’ (hope).

"We have seen no matter what their slogan is, from ‘change’ to ‘ ubah ’ and then ‘ ini kalilah ’, or ‘ harapan ’ now, the opposition was not able to change anything, except leading to a situation where the Chinese stays in the opposition, causing the collapse of Chinese political power," he said.

Thus, he pointed out, as the opposition is split now, the Chinese community must realise that in the absence of support from the Malays, it is impossible to have change in government.

"To say that the Chinese community is the kingmaker is also merely self-deception. The kingmaker has always been the Malay and the indigenous communities.

"When DAP cooperated with PAS and PKR to form Pakatan Rakyat, they were not able to get significant support from the Malay and indigenous communities.

"Today, the newly formed Pakatan Harapan has excluded PAS in their coalition, coupled with the many internal problems within their pact. How is it possible for them to win more support from the Malay and indigenous communities?" he asked.
